Latest News: Air India is planning to expand its global footprint and as part of the attempts for the same, the airline is reportedly negotiating with United Airlines and other members of the Star Alliance group for codeshare agreements.

According to a news report by the Economic Times, “the airline is stepping up on its global ambitions and wants to give flyers a seamless experience of overseas travel. This is part of refurbishing the brand and product.”

Reports also suggested that Air India is in talks with United Airlines over codeshare agreement for the last few months, but the Chicago-based airline has not confirmed anything on this as of now.

Star alliance, a group of 20 airlines, is the world’s largest global airline alliance. Air India, United Airlines, Air France, Singapore Airlines, Lufthansa and other premium airlines are among its members. It was founded in 1997 with the aim of creating a single network for global passengers.

Air India signed its last codeshare agreement in 2019 with Fiji Airways. India’s national carrier was handed to the Tata Group officially in January this year, after the Indian conglomerate won the bid to take over the debt-ridden airline. The new owner of Air India is bent on restoring Maharaja’s lost glory; with focus areas on fleet and cabin upgrade, On-Time Performance (OTP) improvement, and in-flight service enhancement among others. Air India is also revamping its back-end ticket reservation system and working on addressing the issues in customer support and product experience.
